Dr. Halimah Awang (BSc & MSc(Northern Illinois University); PhD (Macquarie University, Australia)). Formerly, Associate Professor and Deputy Dean (Postgraduate Programme, Development & Research) at the Faculty of Economics and Administration (FEA), University of Malaya. In her 30 years at the university, Dr. Halimah was active in teaching, supervision, research and consultancy activities. Her wide research interests cover education, women’s issues, household studies, youth studies, volunteerism and social protection. She has published widely in leading international and local journals. In 2009, the National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC) appointed her to provide inputs on social safety nets in the implementation of the New Economic Model. In 2010. She was invited to brief the Kelantan State Government on the New Economic Model. She is academic advisor to the PhD programme in Research Methodology at Prince of Songkhla University (Pattani Campus) in Thailand, a position held since 2008, a committee member of the Masjid Tun Abdul Aziz Section 14 since 2009, co-founder and Deputy President of the Foundation for the Education & Vocational Training of Women, Malaysia since 1999.
